A research paper from 2018 has revealed that the patron saint of Ireland was actually born in Old Kilpatrick in Scotland. The paper, entitled ‘Saint Patrick's birthplace and the names of the Roman forts along the Antonine Wall’, revealed four Roman period place names of locations along the Antonine Wall, which was constructed in 142 AD. According to the research, a link was found between one of the place names and the name of St Patrick’s birthplace. Thus, tying the saint to Old Kilpatrick. In his own writing, St Patrick never actually said he was Irish. Rather, his autobiography, ‘Confessio’, reveals that he was born in a place called Bannavem Taberniae. However, efforts to precisely locate this place have so far failed, and elsewhere he states that he is a Briton and a Roman citizen. By linking his writing to the latest findings on the Antonine Wall, researchers conclude that the Irish saint was born in the year 387 at Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton in Scotland. Old Kilpatrick is located at the western end of the Antonine Wall, linking it to SUBDOBIADON, the seventh of the wall’s main forts. Historical records state that it wasn’t until he was 14 years old that St Patrick was captured during a raid of his hometown and brought to Ireland to work as a slave. However, he quickly learned the language and adapted to the lifestyle there. It was during his time in Ireland that God came to him in a dream, asking him to spread the Gospel there.
